The Preds on Monday made a statement about their confidence in Ryan Jones. Two year contract at just under $1 million per season. In 46 games last year he tallied only 17 points(7 goals and 10 assists). Ryan did show some promise at times in being a player who will sacrifice his body by standing in front of the net, a void yet to be filled since Scott Hartnell went to Philly. Popular opinion has him on the 2nd line with Legwand/Erat. If he blossoms into the player he has been projected, this is a great contract for the Preds. And if he struggles to score or goes to Milwaukee, it is not a big strain on the budget. Kudos to David Poile. I think Ryan will be a valued asset if he has some luck early and gets off to a good start.
Dan Ellis Watch- Keep an eye on other teams in the upcoming training camps. If a top goalie goes down to injury or one of the large market teams loses their top backup, it could be the domino to a trade. I still believe the goalie position is Pekka Rinne's and he can carry the load. Dan Ellis is David Poile's ace in the hole in getting one more top 6 forward. If not before the season, by trade deadline he will be dealt barring a Rinne injury.
